Statement

My drive to create stems from using art as medicine for loss. Heavily influenced by imagery from folklore and children’s stories, my work aims to incorporate a light, and often humorous, tone when addressing topics including grief, control, and paranoia. I am particularly inspired by trolls within Scandinavian culture, which I investigate through creation to gain a deeper connection to my Danish ancestry. My approach to artmaking is interdisciplinary, working with each new material and process as they relate to individual projects. Throughout many mediums, I am drawn to the figure as a subject, and the ways of capturing it both two-dimensionally and three-dimensionally. Within my artwork, the figure is the ultimate avenue for expression. It provides a clear opportunity for viewers to empathize and relate to the work, supporting my goal to form connections and contribute to difficult conversations.
